Job Description

Gameloft’s audio department is looking for a voiceover designer! Join our team of highly qualified sound professionals, and participate in ambitious projects in a fun, collaborative and respectful work environment.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Under the supervision of the audio manager, and in collaboration with the audio director, audio producer, narrative teams and other parties involved in the creation of our games, the responsibilities of the voiceover designer include:

  • Provide voices for our games as well as for marketing videos
  • Promote the importance of voices in game and sound experiences; propose ideas and reflect on the systems and processes needed to improve games through the addition of voices; ensure that the solutions found are viable
  • List the voice requirements in our games
  • Determine the actors and voice types that will best represent the characters in the game in collaboration with the different parties involved in the production of the games (creative directors, audio director, narrative team, etc.)
  • Give directions to the actors so that they better understand the characters they play, and that they find the right tone for each line of text
  • Take the sound when we have the opportunity to record the actors in our studio
  • Self-record to create voices
  • Finding the best voices for a character, finding the best voices for a given situation when it comes to using voices from commercial or internal bookstores
  • Edit, clean and organize voice recordings
  • Apply the processes and effects necessary to achieve high quality vocals (EQ, compression, normalization, reverb, etc.)
  • Design special voices, such as the voices of robots, monsters, dragons, etc.
  • Implement these voices in games using audio tools (for example: Wwise)
  • Follow the latest technological advancements (plugins, tools, etc.) in order to improve and optimize voice-related processes
  • Participate in the integration of voices in game engines such as Unreal or Unity

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the audio manager, and in collaboration with the audio director, the audio producer, the narrative teams and other relevant parties involved in the creation of our games, the voice-over designer’s responsibilities include:

  • Providing voice-overs for our games and marketing videos
  • Promoting the importance of voice-overs in gaming and auditory experiences; proposing ideas and considering systems and processes needed to improve games by adding voice-overs; making sure any potential solutions are viable
  • Creating the list of voice-over needs for our games
  • Determining the actors and types of voices that best represent a game’s characters, in collaboration with various game production stakeholders (creative directors, audio director, narrative team, etc.)
  • Directing actors so they better understand the characters they are portraying and can find the right tone for each line of text
  • Recording when we have actors in our studio
  • Recording yourself to create voice-overs
  • Finding the best voices for a character and finding the best takes for a given situation when using voice-overs from commercial or internal libraries
  • Editing, cleaning up and organizing voice-over recordings
  • Applying the processes and effects needed to get high-quality voice-overs (equalization, compression, normalization, reverberation, etc.)
  • Creating special voice-overs, such as robot, monster, or dragon voices, etc.
  • Implementing these voice-overs in-game using audio tools (eg, Wwise)
  • Following the latest technological advancements (plugins, tools, etc.) to improve and optimize processes related to voice-overs
  • Helping to integrate voice-overs in game engines such as Unreal or Unity

Qualifications

Skills and profile

  • Good communication skills, both oral and written; ability to present ideas, defend them and argue in order to achieve goals
  • Ability to share attention between several projects simultaneously
  • Mastery of the audio tools required for sound design and voiceover design: audio editors (Pro Tools, Audition, Reaper, etc.) and plugins (Dehumaniser, iZotope RX, SpectraLayers, Altiverb, etc.)
  • Strong team spirit
  • At least 3 years of experience in sound design or voice design in a video game company
  • Experience in sound recording for voices, and voice design for video games
  • Hands-on experience with audio engines (Wwise) or game engines (Unity, Unreal)
